In other words (↑) , we need more time. 最後のIn other wordsの例のように、文頭に来る接続副詞や接続詞はアメリカ英語においては軽く上げ調子になることが多いので、自然な上げ幅で声を上下できるように練習しましょう。   **2．下げ調子** 下げ調子のイントネーションは肯定文、WH Question、そして皮肉や不満を述べるための付加疑問文に使われます。また、文として成立する場所にカンマがある場合は肯定文同様にカンマのところを下げ調子で言います。 **＜肯定文＞** I need help （↓）. 手伝いが必要です。 **＜WH Question＞** What time is the meeting（↓）? ミーティングは何時ですか。 **＜皮肉や不満を述べるための付加疑問文＞** Kate was late to the meeting again（↓）, wasn’t she（↓）? またケイトが会議に遅刻したわけね。（ニュアンス：うんざり） **＜文として切れる箇所のカンマ＞** I want to leave around 3:00（↓）, so let’s have our meeting in the morning（↓）. 今日は3時頃に帰りたいので、午前中に会議をしましょう。   **3．上がって下がる** 選択肢の提示や、「～なんだけどね」などの含みを持たせる文は途中で上がって、次に下がるイントネーションを使います。「～なんだけどね」を示唆するのは口語表現であり、わざわざ何かを示唆したいときに使います。単刀直入に情報を伝達できるときにはあえて、このような話し方をする必要はありません。しかし、話し相手がイレギュラーなイントネーションであえて「～なんだけどね」を示唆していることに気づくためには、「上がって下がるイントネーション」の知識が必要です。 **＜選択肢の提示＞** Would you like chocolate cake（↑）or cheesecake?（↓） チョコレートケーキとチーズケーキ、どちらがいいいですか。 **＜「～なんだけどね」を示唆する＞** He’s nice...（↑↓↑） 彼は優しんだけれど…（ニュアンス:恋愛対象には見れないわ。）   **◆強力なツール youglish のご紹介** ![youglish](https://www.smarthabit.net/hs-fs/hubfs/youglish.png?width=325&name=youglish.png) Versantのような音声認識システムを活用した自動採点テストでは、どれだけ発音やイントネーションが規範と近いかを判定しています。できるだけネイティブに近いイントネーションで話せることがスピーキングテストの高得点に繋がります。 イントネーションに迷ったら、youglishを活用しましょう。 >> [https://youglish.com/](https://youglish.com/) 自分が聞きたい表現を検索バーに入れます。例えば、On the other handと打ち、アメリカ英語の人の英語を聞きたければUSをクリックします。動画下の ▶| をクリックすると、次から次へとyoutube動画のその表現の箇所を見ることができます。「このような場面ではこのようなイントネーション」ということを自分の中でデータベース化していき、自分でもふさわしいイントネーションで話せるようにリピートをして習得しましょう。 **◆復習問題 ** ![ひよこ](https://www.smarthabit.net/hs-fs/hubfs/%E3%81%B2%E3%82%88%E3%81%93.png?width=505&name=%E3%81%B2%E3%82%88%E3%81%93.png) これらの2つの文はイントネーションが違うので、意味が異なります。 コミュニケーションにおいて何を求められているのでしょうか。 It's raining again（↓）, isn’t it（↑）?
